How to look great in front of the camera - Learning from ONE OF the Best – Peter Hurley
how can I look great in front of the camera?
I’ve been shooting professionally for 15 years, and like a lot of people, always keen to learn and develop my trade. In September 2018, I travelled from Bishopbriggs to Dublin for what became a turning point in my headshot photography career. New York‑based photographer Peter Hurley brought his two‑day Headshot Intensive workshop to D‑Light Studio, inviting a small group of photographers to master the art of capturing confident, modern headshots. Peter’s Headshot Intensive is his signature course—two days of hands‑on training in directing expression, lighting, and client rapport really helped influence my headshot work. I even got to sit in front of the master for my very own headshot, so I know exactly how difficult it can feel. I’ll post a few pictures from the workshop below (and a wee peek at my own headshot!).
There are several things we can do to look good in front of the camera. But for now, I’d like to share one of my key takeaways from the course. It’s one of the aspects of refinement that really helps make you look your best in front of the camera. Bizarrely, it’s all about the jaw. Here’s Peter to explain this in more detail
